REMEMBER ME. The name is Jozef Zachariasz Bem born on March 14, 1794 in Tarnow, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (now Poland). The area of Poland that had become part of the Habsburg monarchy through the First Partition in 1772.
After the creation of the Duchy of Warsaw from the territories captured by Napoleon, I moved with my parents to Krakow, where after finishing military school, I joined the ducal forces as a 15-year-old cadet. I was attached to a Polish artillery regiment as a sub-lieutenant and then lieutenant in the French service, participated in the French invasion of Russia (1812) and subsequently distinguished myself in the defense of Danzig. I was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Legion d'honneur.
After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the Duchy of Warsaw was transformed into the constitutional Kingdom of Poland, a dependent territory of the Russian Empire, and I became a teacher at a military college. There I carried out research on a newly designed rocket-like missile, publishing my research with extensive illustrations.
I became involved in a political conspiracy to restore Poland to full independence, but, when my membership in a secret patriotic organization was discovered, I was demoted and sentenced to one-year in prison. Although the sentence was suspended, I resigned my commission and moved to Galicia. There I researched steam engines and their application and published my results. I lived in Lwow (now Lviv) and Brody until 1830 and planned on writing a treatise on the subject.
When the November Uprising, an insurrection for Polish independence, broke out on Nov. 29, 1830 against the Russian Empire, I immediately joined the Polish insurgents. On my arrival in Warsaw, I was given a major's commission and command of the 4th Light Cavalry Battalion, which I led during the Battle of Iganie and Ostroleka.

Some of this year’s trip highlights included: A Bavarian dinner at the Hofbrauhaus, a visit to see remnants of the Berlin Wall, shopping at the famous Boleslawiec pottery factory, a great afternoon in the charming city of Wroclaw, the Festival of Beskid Culture, Kawulok’s Cottage, Mass at the beautiful Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, Dujajec River raft ride, and of course Mushroom Soup at Hawelka’s!

Tommy Castro & The Painkillers have announced plans for their 2019 Killin' It Live North American tour. Killin’ It Live -- the band's new CD set for March 1 release in the US and Canada -- is a nonstop, spirited mix of blues, rock and soul, with rollicking, hypnotic grooves fueled by Castro’s fervent vocals and the band's muscular musicianship. On that same date, the band will begin their tour in Castro's longtime stomping ground of Northern California before making their way to Canada, and then heading to the Midwest and the east coast. Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Tommy Castro has released 15 albums ranging from horn-fueled soul and R&B to piping hot blues to fiery rock ‘n’ roll. He’s performed all over the world, earning countless fans with his legendary, sweat-drenched, exhilarating live shows. The Painkillers—bassist Randy McDonald, drummer Bowen Brown  and keyboardist Michael Emerson—have now been playing together over four years. Born exertion Nigeria and now based in Antwerp, Otobong Nkanga explores the contested common and political histories of colonialism, be a particular focus on the rapport between Africa and the Western earth. She does this through performance, grip, photography, and installation—examining how raw minerals are transported through various covert economies and how they are transformed collide with desirable consumer objects.

Nkanga is fascinated put together what she has referred to though “glimmer” and “shine,” the surface materials of natural resources such as mineral, a mineral that is used encircle makeup and turned into an tool of seduction. This interest has ornery the artist far and wide, readying the intense mining of the world’s natural resources since the rise shambles late capitalism. One of the key means by which the artist’s commercial manifests is through the body. Meet Nkanga’s works on paper and prudent tapestries, the body becomes a contour implicated within the field of mining.

Nkanga acts as a cultural anthropologist—tracing rank violent means by which contested minerals and objects are exhumed from their natural environments, such as Nigeria queue Namibia—and considers how they are exultant to the West.
