iCapital to purchase AI firm AltExchange
AltExchange, an AI-driven technology company revolutionising alternative investment data aggregation and iCapital, the global fintech platform powering the world’s alternative investment marketplace for the wealth and asset management industries, have reached an official agreement whereby iCapital plans to acquire AltExchange.
To facilitate real-time data reporting and simplified tax filing, AltExchange’s modern technology collects and transforms unstructured data from disparate documents and multi-format data streams into organised insights.
Financial advisers are empowered by AltExchange’s AdvisorVue platform, which unites client portfolios, standardises data and documents, and automates reporting procedures.
Moreover, AltExchange’s Digital Custodian Platform (DCP) offers asset managers a strong tool for automating investor reporting, regulating post-investment reporting data, and enabling smooth connection with advisers’ systems.
Lawrence Calcano, chairman and CEO of iCapital stated: “AltExchange has developed one of the most advanced document retrieval solutions that’s connected to sophisticated mapping, routing technology and LLM (Large Language Model) based document extraction. This acquisition complements the investments we are making in our internal R&D to further enhance our data management capabilities. Combined with our existing solutions, it allows us to deliver on our goal of creating reliable end-to-end data management services for all our clients. These capabilities will help our clients collect, extract, and organise their data more efficiently and cost-effectively, therefore making more informed decisions and achieving their financial objectives. We are excited to welcome AltExchange to iCapital.”
Kareem Hamady, CEO of AltExchange, and will join iCapital as part of the transaction added: “We built an intuitive adviser-facing platform to manage, monitor, and
Alternative Investments Platform Acquires Onboarding Solutions Firm
Giving its rationale for the deal, iCapital says there's a pressing need to make onboarding less painful and laborious.
iCapital, the New York-based platform for alternative investments, has agreed to acquire Parallel Markets, which provides an investor onboarding, verification and monitoring solution.
The purchase price wasnât disclosed by iCapital in its statement late last week.
The agreement comes as iCapital says it is estimated that $2.5 billion is spent globally on identity verification services and compliance across the financial services industry.
"Onboarding and verifying digital investor identity and compliance is a major friction point in private markets investing,â Lawrence Calcano, chairman and CEO of iCapital, said. âParallel Markets has pioneered software that supports a reusable investor passport, streamlining these duplicative processes for advisors, investors, and fund managers. As we continue to evolve our tech stack, we will enhance automated entry for alternative investing and leverage AI and machine learning to offer a complete, intuitive end-to-end solution. This is expected to result in faster onboarding, reduced costs, and a more efficient investment process.â
The new iCapital Investor Passport will offer a turnkey onboarding solution for all fund investors, both institutional and wealth management, creating a universal reusable investor identity that can be used across iCapital Marketplace and the suite of offerings on iCapital's platform for global alternative asset managers, iCapital said.
This digital identity will function as a âdata lockerâ for storing, managing, and sharing personal information needed for fund subscription and compliance verification in private markets.
Welcome back to the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast.
I've been having many conversations with GPs and LPs over the past few months — and it feels like we've reached a point in private markets where both sides are trying to figure out how to navigate this space, from a product perspective and a technology perspective.
To better understand these issues, I asked Lawrence Calcano, Chairman & CEO of iCapital, the largest platform in the space and a business that is in the middle of much of the flows of activity between GPs and LPs, to come back on the show to dive deeper into these topics.
The main topic of conversation? The evolution of the different service models that enable GPs to unlock access to private markets for more LPs.
As private markets welcomes more investors to the space, the how becomes as important as the why.
How can investors gain access to private markets in ways that work for them?
How can alternative asset managers better serve those investors?
How can this all be done in a responsible, thoughtful way that sets up both investors and private markets for success in the long-term?
Lawrence and I had a fascinating conversation. We discussed:
- How can operational efficiency across the entire value chain lower fees?
- Where do technological innovations like distributed ledger and AI factor into industry transformation?
- How important is education in driving adoption of alternative investments?
- How model portfolios and customization can transform the investor experience.
- Platform versus point solutions.
- Overestimating and underestimating market trends and market size.
- Why effortless is a myth.
Thanks Lawrence for coming on the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast to share your thoughtful perspectives on the industry and its continued evolution.
