Citizen TV news anchor Trevor Ombija is gearing up for a tough political race, if his latest moves are any indication.
The media personality has been eying for a political seat, which is not a secret.
Will Trevor Ombija be the next Nyakach MP?
As a member of the Media Council of Kenya, one is not allowed to declare interest in a political seat while still in practice, but there are ways of doing so without word of mouth, and Ombija has seemingly resorted to this.
Speaking in Nyakach during the funeral of Kisumu senator Tom Ojienda's mother, the journalist confirmed the rumoured reports about him going for the Nyakach parliamentary seat.
"I have offered my sincere condolences to my friend Tom Ojienda. I will not say much because of time. To the Nyakach people, I only have two requests. Let's embrace development without chaos. The difference in ideologies is not enmity. Do you agree or not? If the whistle is blown for the race to start, is there anyone who can run faster than a dog?" Ombija said in a video shared by News One Kenya.
What was Trevor Ombija's job before fame?
As we previously told you, the newscaster worked as a matatu conductor in his hometown of Nyakach for many years before he became a well-known face on Kenyan television.
This could explain why Ombija maintains a tight relationship with the people of Nyakach, Kisumu, despite his rapid climb in journalism.

On 22 July 2018, Citizen TV unveiled their new television studio and star news anchors. These included Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla, the first married couple to present the news on Kenyan television. The station also launched an affiliate Ramogi TV in 2021.

Citizen TV news anchor Trevor Ombinja is the latest from the Royal Media-owned station to anchor news from the comfort of his home.

During the bulletin, many Kenyans noticed that the news anchor has been living large.
One look at the classy house was a clear indication that Ombinja lives in one of the city's leafy suburbs.

In one of the photos, the news anchor was dressed in a navy blue suit and a pink shirt.
Ombinja was standing near a spiral staircase and the tiled floor appeared to be well polished.
The house also has a gym area as some of the training machines could be seen. I mean it is the perfect definition of a perfect self-contained house.

The talented news anchor joined the long list of journalists who have been anchoring news from their homes.
This comes days after Jeff Koinange and Waihiga Mwaura delivered their bulletin from home without any hitches.

Trevor Ombija (born 9 September 1988) is a Kenyan journalist who currently works for Citizen TV as the host of the channel's Monday report and morning show Day Break.
Early years
Ombija was born on 9 September 1988 in Kisumu County, Nyanza province.
He attended high school at Anding'o Opanga Secondary school in Nyanza Province and afterwards to University of Nairobi where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism and Media studies) between 2010 and 2013.
Career
However, before journalism, Ombija worked as a Leaf Stores Clerk for DHL between 2006 and 2010. Ombija entered the field of working in journalism starting out for China Global Television Network in 2012 as an intern. After graduating Ombija worked with Nation Media Group as a radio anchor for Nation FM then moved to TV where he worked for NTV as a news anchor in 2014. In 2019 Ombija moved to Citizen TV where he is currently working.
Personal life
Outside of journalism and media, Ombija is an investor of Kileleshwa club Samaki Samaki Club and is a senior partner of Crestwood Marketing and Communications Ltd. On 20 June 2023, Ombija revealed on Instagram that he has a son.
Awards and achievements
On 18 December 2020 Ombija was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) award by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
