biography
Born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz IV in Los Angeles, California, he appeared on the first cover of TV Guide (April 1953) with mother Lucille Ball. No baby could possibly live up to the hoopla surrounding his birth. Timed to coincide with the onscreen television birth of Little Ricky on his parents' TV sitcom, I Love Lucy, Desi's entry into the world made front page headlines throughout the U.S. and the world. After all the publicity died down, it is no wonder that Desi waited almost twelve years before becoming an independently wealthy rock star on his own.
His group, Dino, Desi, and Billy (also featuring Dean Martin Jr. and Billy Henshe) propelled Desi into the world of 1960s bigtime show business. The youngsters had several hit records, and appeared on the biggest television variety shows. By the time he was fifteen, Desi was a show business veteran. Unfortunately, he became a star just as the sex and drugs revolution of the 1960s began in earnest.
In 1968, he was cast as Craig Carter on Here's Lucy, a TV series role he would play for three seasons. Desi's face was seen on every movie magazine and tabloid paper, as his social exploits made unfortunate headlines. Highly intelligent, incredibly handsome, seemingly self-assured, and brimming with talent, Desi lived the high life that included alcohol, drugs, and romances with some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood.
At the same time, Desi embarked on a series of commercial and critical successes on both the big screen and TV. Red Sky at Morning (1970), established Desi as a young leading man to be reckoned with. For his professional successes he won the Golden Globe Award as most promising male newcomer. TV movies like, Mr. and Mrs. Bo Jo Jones (1971), The Voyage of the Yes (1972), She Lives! (1973), Having Babies (1976), Flight to Holocaust (1976), To Kill a Cop (1978), Gridlock (1980), and The Night the Bridge Fell Down (1983), provided Desi with a wide range of acting roles. Desi'
Desi Arnaz Jr.
American actor and musician (born 1953)
Desiderio Alberto Arnaz IV (born January 19, 1953), better known as Desi Arnaz Jr., is an American retired actor and musician. He is the son of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
Early life
Arnaz was born on January 19, 1953, at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles. His older sister is actress Lucie Arnaz, who was born in 1951.
His birth was one of the most publicized in television history. His parents were the stars of the television sitcomI Love Lucy, and Ball's pregnancy was part of the story line, which was considered daring in 1952. The same day Ball gave birth to Desi Jr., the fictional Lucy Ricardo gave birth to "Little Ricky". As a testament to how interested the American public was in Lucy's TV baby, Arnaz appeared on the cover of the first issue of TV Guide with the headline "Lucy's $50,000,000 baby", ($590,000,000 in 2024 dollars) because revenue from advertising tie-ins was expected to top that amount. Actor Richard Keith (a.k.a. Keith Thibodeaux) later portrayed "Little Ricky" in the TV series; Keith spent much time with Lucie and Desi Jr. in childhood and became close friends with the family, teaching Desi Jr. how to play drums.
Arnaz attended University High School in West Los Angeles.
Career
At age 12, Arnaz was a drummer with Dino, Desi & Billy. The others were Dean Paul Martin (son of Dean Martin) and Billy Hinsche. The band scored two hit singles with "I'm a Fool" and "Not the Lovin' Kind" in 1965. With Billy's passing in 2021, Desi is the sole surviving member of the trio.
Acting
From 1968 to 1974, Desi Arnaz and his sister Lucie co-starred opposite their mother in Here's Lucy as her children. In 1968, he had a guest-starring role as Jerry and Suzie's drum-playing friend Tommy in the episode, "The Hombre Who Came to Dinner: Part 2", from the show The Mothers-in-Law, executive-produced and

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s legacy lives on through their children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., and their grandchildren, Julia, Haley, Simon, Joseph and Kate.
The comedic duo’s journey to parenthood began in 1951 with the birth of Lucie Désirée Arnaz. “They were dying to have a family as soon as they got married,” Lucie told The Desert Sun in 2018 of her parents, who wed on Nov. 30, 1940.
However, it didn’t happen right away. In an interview with The Washington Star in 1980, Ball shared that she had two miscarriages while trying to get pregnant during the first decade of their marriage.
“For me, the birth of a child, it was a miracle,” she told the newspaper about welcoming her firstborn. "I couldn’t believe it.”

The pair's second child, Desiderio “Desi” Alberto Arnaz Jr., arrived 18 months in 1953, to much public fanfare.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Ball was scheduled for a c-section and welcomed her son the same night that her character, Lucy Ricardo, gave birth to her fictional son, Little Ricky.
