Raymon Lema Ainsi Nzinga, as known as Ray Lima, is a pianist, a guitar player and Congolese composer (RDC). Born in 1946, he learned to play the piano very young while going to the Church. However the first instrument that he really played was the guitar as a member of the Gérard Kazembe Orchestra. In 1974, as he was just hired as the Musical Direcot the National Ballet of Zaire in Kinshasa, he formed the orchestra who would play and accompany the legendary box fight between Mohamed Ali and George Foreman. Sadly, following the disagreement he had with the Mobutu regime, he was constrained to leave his homeland to live in France in 1982. In 1985, he collabed with Tony Allen for the project "Caravane Jericho", an artists collective united against the imprisonment of Fela Kuti. During his career, Ray Lema was part of 20 albums and awaded the Charles Cros Academy Prize (2013). He is now a UNESCO spokeperson, godfather and initiator of the project of the African Musical University (UMA).

Record label
Lusafrica, full name: Productions Lusafrica (French for Lusafrica Productions) is a multinational independent record label company based in Paris, France. The company was founded in 1988 by José da Silva (born in 1959 in Praia, Cape Verde). It was the first multinational record company to open in Cape Verde and one of the first in France. It is the main African independent label in France.
The company had originally produced records by artists mainly from Cape Verde and other lusophone countries. Since, the company has been recorded by artists from the United States, Cuba, Brazil and France.
History
Debut and success
In 1987, José da Silva (b. 1959 in Praia), then track switcher for SNCF, chose to become a music producer at his expense. During his dinner in Lisbon at the restaurant with Cape Verdean singer Bana, he heard the voice of Cesária Évora for the first time and together proposed.
In 1988, Lusafrica was created and recorded the first album La Diva aux pieds nus which achieved huge success among the Cape Verdean community selling 3,000 vinyl records, notably with the single "Bia Lulucha". The following album Distino di Belita was recorded together with the Parisian label Mélodie. Cesária Évora attended the Musiques Métisses concert festival in Angoulême, the first to touch a wider audience outside the Cape Verdean community. A year later, Mar Azul was released and later Miss Perfumado in 1992 that sold 500,000 copies, it featured the single "Sodade" which became an international success and the label competed with other record label giants including Sony and BMG.
Along with the success of Cesária Évora which won herself a Grammy Award for Best World Music in 2004, Lusafrica produced other artists, the company later lost money in the early 2000s, its catalog became most extensive.
Adaptation
In the early 2000s, José da Silva was forced to reduce t At No 1 is Djudjon by Malian griot couple Bassekou Kouyaté and Amy Sacko, while Ivorian artist Dobet Gnahoré is second with Zouzou. Coming in at No 5 is Maqeda by Ethio-Italian act the Atse Tewodros Project, with L’bnat by Moroccan group Asmaa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou taking the No 7 spot. Omonile – Son of the Soil by Nigerian musician Atanda is 16th, while Gente by Nancy Vieira from Cape Verde sits at No 20. Released via One World Records, Djudjon sees Kouyaté and Sacko invite listeners into their musical universe. “The Garana natives invite us to travel to the source where it all began for Kouyaté and his other long-time companion – the West African string instrument ngoni,” One World Records writes. “Kouyaté and Sacko chant to us about their fears and hopes for the future, give philosophical advice, and sing tributes to the Bambara Empire.” Djudjon is the first album by the couple that has been produced in Mali entirely by Malians. Zouzou, meanwhile, is Dobet Gnahoré’s seventh studio album. A singer, songwriter, dancer and percussionist who has taken the modern Afropop sounds of her country in exciting new directions, Gnahoré is known for her powerful stage presence and rich vocal style. She has earned numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2010 for her collaboration with singer India.Arie. Zouzou was produced by Momo Wang, aka Dr Wang, one of Abidjan’s leading producers who has worked with the likes of French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura and coupé-décale artist Ariel Sheney. Released on 21 June via Galileo Music, Maqeda features Ethiopian and Italian musicians brought together under the Atse Tewodros Project, which was formed in 2010 by Gabriella Ghermandi foster mutual dialogue and artistic creation.
