Ronaldo began his professional career with Sporting CP at age 16 in 2002 and signed for Manchester United a year later. He won three back-to-back Premier League titles in 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09. In 2007-08, Ronaldo helped United win the UEFA Champions League. In 2008-09, he won his first Ballon d'Or in December. At one point Ronaldo was the most expensive professional footballer of all time, after moving from Manchester United to Real Madrid for approximately £80 million in July 2009. The family was so poor his mother, Dolores Aveiro, considered terminating her pregnancy and tried a homemade recipe, she revealed in her book Mother Courage. Pro soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is approaching a milestone birthday and, seemingly, another milestone contract. Ronaldo, who turns 40 on February 5, is negotiating a new deal with his current club team Al-Nassr.

According to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport, the Saudi Pro League squad is set to offer Ronaldo an extension worth more than £3 million—or $3.67 million—per week, plus performance incentives. That means it could be worth more than $200 million over a full year.

Already the world’s highest-paid athlete, Ronaldo’s current contract expires in June. No official deal has been reached, but talks between the team and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner are “positive and progressing,” according to Jacobs. Ronaldo would also become an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034.

Ronaldo has scored 46 goals in 44 league matches with Al-Nassr since officially joining the team in May 2023, per stats from Transfermarkt. Last year, he became the first men’s player to reach 900 career goals.
